Nicotinoyl-gamma-aminobutyric acid is a synthetic drug developed in the Soviet Union that combines niacin (vitamin B3) with γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the latter being a neurotransmitter with anti-anxiety effects. By combining the two, it is thought that GABA transport to the brain is more effective. Nicotinoyl-gamma-aminobutyric acid may be used to improve memory, prevent dementia, boost brain health, treat mood disorders, reduce anxiety, help with depression, lower blood pressure, sharpen memory, enhance athletic performance, protect against Alzheimer's disease, and aid with migraines. It may also be used to help treat epilepsy, macular degeneration, and Parkinson disease.
