The sprouts of cruciferous vegetables are high in glucosinolates. These sulfur-containing compounds are metabolized in the body to some very powerful cancer-fighting compounds, including isothiocyanates and sulforaphane. Sulforaphane has a number of beneficial effects on cancer, including a demonstration that it can kill cancer stem cells. it is also shown to be valuable in the treatment of autism.
