Shilajit, also called mineral pitch, is a natural resin-like substance found primarily in the rocks of the Himalayan mountains. It forms over centuries from the decomposition of plant material. Shilajit contains fulvic acid, humic acid, and over 84 minerals. It has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries due to its potential health benefits. Shilajit may be used to help improve brain function, help manage Alzheimer’s disease, slow down the effects of aging, reduce inflammation, fight viral infections (including herpes), reduce symptoms related to chronic fatigue, alleviate high altitude sickness, improve sperm count and health, reduce bad cholesterol levels, improve heart health, protect against certain types of cancer, strengthen bones, protect against osteoporosis, increase energy, boost libido, improve male fertility, and increase testosterone levels. It may also be used for anemia, to improve adrenal health, and for longevity. Shilajit is great to use before exercising as it helps with physical endurance as well as post-workout recovery.
