Methylprednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid that is primarily used to treat pain and swelling caused by arthritis and other joint disorders. It is a steroid that prevents the release of substances responsible for inflammation in the body. Methylprednisolone may also be used to treat various other conditions such as blood disorders, certain cancers, eye conditions, skin/intestinal/kidney/lung diseases, and immune system disorders.
