Danshen, also known as red sage or salvia miltiorrhiza, is an herb and its root is highly valued in Chinese medicine. It has been used for many years to help with circulation problems, strokes, chest pain (angina pectoris), high blood pressure, and other diseases of the heart and blood vessels. It may also be used for menstrual disorders, chronic liver disease, miscarriage, and insomnia caused by rapid heartbeat and tight chest.
