The amino acid arginine is a conditional amino acid, which means that the body produces enough of it to meet the bodies needs under normal conditions, but additional amounts may be required in the event of illness or trauma. High concentrations of arginine are found in the skin and connective tissue, where it helps to prevent thinning and wrinkles in the skin.
Arginine is involved in removing ammonia from the body and it helps the body free itself from excess nitrogen. Additionally, arginine protects the liver from damage caused by drugs and chemicals and stimulates the regeneration of the liver, effects hormone secretion, contributes to the production process of new bone and tendon cells, encourages wound healing, and helps support the immune system by encouraging greater activity in the thymus, where T-cells are produced to fight disease.
