The amino acid ornithine is involved in the degradation of ammonia in the liver, and is recommended by Dr Clark as part of a parasite and liver cure, to relieve the liver's need to eliminate ammonia. Ornithine may also be used to help achieve good sleep and avoid waking up at night as Dr Clark believed that insomnia is mainly due to the toxicity of ammonia in the brain. Additionally, it may be used to help transform fat into energy, increase muscle mass, promote healthy ligaments and tendons, stimulate the immune system, increase the speed of healing, have a positive effect on male libido, reduce the level of urea in the blood and urine, decrease stiffness in the joints, and promote a healthy liver. Ornithine is particularly popular with athletes because it combines muscle mass development with an increase in protein intake. It has no side effects and is not addictive.
