Risedronate belongs to a class of medications called bisphosphates and is used to prevent and treat osteoporosis in adults that may develop due to age, menopause, or long-term usage of corticosteroid medications (such as prednisone). It may also be used to treat Paget’s disease of the bone (in which the formation of the bone is abnormal). Risedronate works by slowing down bone loss which in turn helps maintain strong bones and reduce the risk of fractures.
