Licorice is an herb that has been used for thousands of years to treat a variety of conditions. There are over 300 different compounds in licorice, some of which have antiviral and antimicrobial properties. Licorice may be used to help improve skin conditions such as eczema, improve digestion and ease stomach upset, soothes heartburn, fight H. Pylori bacteria and treat peptic ulcer disease, boost immune system function, improve oral (dental) health, and regulate cortisol levels and decrease stress. It may also be used to help with sore throats, coughs, asthma, bronchitis, and upper respiratory tract infections.
