Lemon balm, also known as Melissa officinalis, is a lemon-scented herb from the mint family that has been used as an herbal remedy for various purposes such as reduce stress and anxiety, improve gastrointestinal health (e.g. bloating, nausea, indigestion, heartburn, constipation, etc.), decrease inflammation, boost cognitive function and focus, calm the mind, support relaxation, relieve premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms, reduce blood sugar levels, combat viral infections (such as herpes simplex virus type 1 and type 2), relax muscles, reduce tooth pain, and promote sleep (i.e. help with insomnia).
