Botulism is a paralyzing nerve toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The disease begins with weakness, blurred vision, feeling tired, and difficulty speaking. Other symptoms include dry mouth and throat, muscle weakness and paralysis, circulatory weakness, light sensitivity of the eyes, slow heartbeat, postural hypotension, constipation, cramping and pain in the stomach, coldness, stiffness, and numbness in hands and feet, and joint pain. Symptoms of botulism are similar to Lyme disease.
