Colchicine is commonly used to treat and prevent gout flare-ups (attacks). It may be used to help with inflammation and pain, chondrocalcinosis, certain rare diseases (e.g. familial Mediterranean fever, Behçet's disease), and acute cases of microcrystalline episodes. Colchicine may also be used to help treat acute idiopathic pericarditis in association with conventional anti-inflammatory treatments used during the first episode of pericarditis or a recurrence.
