Oxytocin is a 9-amino acid peptide that is associated with good feelings and is often called the “love hormone”. Oxytocin may be used to help produce a general sense of well-being including calmness, increase trust, enhance sexual arousal, reduce stress, promote sleep, manage diabetes, boost cognitive function, and improve social/emotional bonds with partner, family, and/or peers. For pregnant women, oxytocin may help induce labor, baby bonding, and milk production. It may also be used to help stimulate uterine contractions in women with an incomplete miscarriage.
