Saccharomyces boulardii is a yeast that was first isolated from the fruits lychee and mangosteen in 1923 by French scientist Henri Boulard. It is commonly used as a probiotic and may help with acute diarrhea, improve irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease, improve digestive function, boost immune response, and reduce inflammation and combat bacterial, parasite, fungal infections. It may also promote liver function and be beneficial for hypercholesterol conditions.
