Rubella, also known as German measles, is a contagious infection caused by the rubella virus. The virus is transmitted through the air via coughs and sneezes of infected people. A symptom of rubella is a rash which starts on the face and then spreads to the rest of the body. Other symptoms include muscle and joint pain, swollen and tender lymph nodes, headache, low-grade fever, eye inflammation, weakness, stiffness, fatigue, enlarged spleen, cataract, miscarriage, brain and spinal cord inflammation, multiple sclerosis, juvenile diabetes, learning disabilities, and autism.
