Taheebo - also known as Pau d'Arco, Lapacho, and Ipe Roxo - is made from the inner bark of the Tabebuia impetiginosa (Martius ex DC) Standley tree. The tree is native to South and Central America's tropical rainforests and traditionally the inner bark was used by aboriginal communities of the Amazon to treat stomach, skin, and inflammatory conditions. A number of compounds called naphthoquinones, largely lapachol and beta-lapachone, have been isolated from the inner bark and believed to be responsible for the claimed benefits. The bark can be classified as a plant immunostimulant. Taheebo may be used to reduce inflammation, fight against bacterial and fungal infections, help treat blood coagulation, promote weight loss, fight against cancer, support the immune system, decrease rheumatic pain, and help treat depression.
