Apixaban is a blood-thinning medication prescribed to prevent and treat blood clots in conditions like atrial fibrillation, where it reduces the risk of stroke, as well as in cases of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), which involve clots in the legs and lungs, respectively. Additionally, it is used after surgeries, such as hip or knee replacements, to help prevent clot formation when the risk is higher.
