Akkermansia Maciniphila, is a mucin-degrading strain of bacteria that is naturally found in the gastrointestinal tract. First identified in 2004, this probiotic increases the thickness of the mucus lining in the gut, thus increasing its barrier function. Akkermansia Muciniphila may be used to help strengthen the gut lining, improve gut health, regulate the immune system, promote heart health, decrease the risk of obesity, produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), and reduce inflammation.
