Red clover (Trifolium pratense) is a flowering plant belonging to the legume family that has been mentioned in traditional medical texts of both Eastern and Western civilizations for various disorders. It is a rich source of isoflavones, which are compounds that act as phytoestrogen (plant chemicals similar to the female hormone estrogen). It may be used to help with womenโ€™s health problems such as menstrual and menopausal symptoms, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease, cancer, infertility in women, skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis, as well as respiratory problems such as asthma and bronchitis. Red clover may also be used to help promote hormonal balance in women.
