Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic that blocks the hormone aldosterone, helping the body release excess salt and water while keeping more potassium. It may help with reducing fluid retention (swelling, edema), supporting healthy blood pressure, and easing strain on the heart in people with fluid overload. Because it also has anti-androgen effects, it may help with androgen-related issues such as acne, oily skin, or unwanted hair growth.
