L-Citrulline, or citrulline, is a non-essential amino acid that plays an important role in the urea cycle, which is the metabolic pathway that helps remove toxic ammonia from the body. Additionally, L-citrulline promotes vasodilation (i.e. widening of the blood vessels). L-citrulline may be used to help improve athletic performance, enhance exercise recovery, boost nitric oxide production, help with erectile dysfunction, support cardiovascular health, increase blood flow, and enhance brain function.
