Myrrh gum, also known as myrrh, is a sap-like substance that comes from the flowering tree of the genus Commiphora, which is native to parts of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. It has both antioxidant and anti-cancer properties and has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine as well as Ayurvedic medicine. Myrrh gum may be used to help decrease inflammation, fight infections, reduce pain and swelling, improve gum health, protect the liver, decrease cholesterol levels, aid with wound healing, and improve skin conditions (e.g. eczema, bedsores, acne, etc.). It may also be used to help with abscess, asthma, sore throats, digestive problems, muscle spasms, canker sores, and heavy menstrual bleeding. Myrrh gum may be used to decrease negative feelings and when combined with Frankincense, it may help achieve a deep meditative state.
