Taurine is an amino acid with a diverse set of functions in the body. It increases parasympathetic tone, thereby reducing anxiety. It plays a central role in water balance in the body, helping with water retention and edema. It is critical for the electrical regulation of the heart and can thus be very helpful for arrhythmias and rapid heart rate. It has also been shown to lower blood pressure. And perhaps most importantly, taurine gets conjugated to bile salts and thereby has a central role in fat absorption while also helping to keep bile from getting too thick. Consider taurine for anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, water retention and edema, diabetes, fat malabsorption, gallbladder issues, and any cardiovascular disease.
