Clotrimazole is an antifungal medication commonly used to treat vaginal yeast infections. Naturally both fungus and bacteria live in the vagina; however, when the fungus Candida albicans increases, it can cause an infection. Having a vaginal yeast infection is normal with approximately 75% of women experiencing it at least once in their lives. Symptoms some women may experience when they have a vaginal yeast infection include an itchy intimate area, soreness around the vulva, minor swelling of the labia, and cottage cheese-like white discharge.
Clotrimazole may also be used to treat other fungal skin infections such as ringworm, diaper rash, athlete’s foot, and jock itch.
